Questo è il nostro viaggio tra i corridoi della scuola più sognata della tv.
Il  maialino vi racconterà qualche curiosità sul film e sulla fortunatissima serie tv.

I trentenni di oggi sono cresciuti con Leroy, Coco, Bruno... proprio gli stessi trentenni che, ne siamo sicuri, si saranno avventurati in improbabili corsi di danza o canto spinti dalle affascinanti avventure dei ragazzi di Fame.

Dedichiamo queste pagine a quei trentenni che magari hanno abbandonato le scarpette con la punta rinforzata e adesso lavorano seduti ad una scrivania, e ai ragazzini e alle ragazzine che oggi stanno studiando (o solo sognando) per diventare qualcuno nel mondo dello spettacolo.

Per vivere sopra un palco davanti ad un pubblico che si ricorderà per sempre il loro nome.

"Saranno Famosi" debutta sulla NBC il 7 Gennaio 1982 e termina il 4 Agosto 1987.
Curiosità: per qualche anno il destino di Madonna si è più volte scontrato con i ragazzi di "Saranno Famosi":

Miss Ciccone ha partecipato ai provini per la serie tv ma è stata scartata, al suo posto è stata scelta Janet Jackson che ha interpretato Cleo dall'84 all'85 ma non solo, si era anche proposta per il ruolo di Ariel in "Footloose", che poi è stato assegnato a Lori Singer, che in "Saranno Famosi" era Julie Miller, la violoncellista.

Ecco i Protagonisti

LYDIA GRANT

E' l'insegnate di danza, forte, generosa, sa aiutare gli studenti in difficoltà, ma se la fai arrabbiare sono dolori. Il suo leggendario intervento nella sigla la dice lunga, Lydia Grant è decisa a far capire ai suoi ragazzi che il mondo dello spettacolo è duro e spietato.
Parlando dell'attrice, Debbie Allen, dovremmo presentarvi un curriculum infinito, ballerina, coreografa, regista, produttrice ("Amistad", 1997), potete vedere il suo nome comparire nei titoli di coda di quasi tutti i telefilm americani di successo.
E' la sorella di Phylicia Rashad, moglie di Bill Cosby in "I Robinson".

CHRISTOPHER DONLON

E' il vero tamarro del gruppo.
Il suo arrivo alla scuola coincide con quello della dolce e svampita Holly, è un aspirante ballerino che, naturalmente, entra subito in competizione con Leroy. E' troppo sicuro di sè, ci penserà Lydia Grant a raddrizzarlo un po'.
Anche Billy Hufsey è stato scelto per portare il personaggio di Chris nella versione cinematografica della serie.
Suona un numero incredibile di strumenti: batteria, chitarra, pianoforte, sax.

LEROY JOHNSON

Incredibile ma vero, Gene Anthony Ray non ha mai frequentato corsi di danza, la sua palestra erano le strade di Harlem, dove è nato e cresciuto.
Quando riuscì ad entrare nella famosa Performing Arts High School venne allontanato per cattiva condotta.
Poi nel 1979 a soli 17 anni partecipa ad un provino che lo farà entrare nel cast per il ruolo di Leroy Johnson, superando ben 2600 aspiranti.

L’ho sentito dal notiziaro delle 18.00 a Radio Deejay. La voce della giornalista mi dice che Gene Anthony Ray è morto. Gene Anthony Ray, non Leroy. Si, perché molti si ostinavano a chiamarlo con il nome del personaggio che l’ha reso famoso, che gli ha dato tanto successo ma che poi l’ha distrutto.

Tanta popolarità e soddisfazioni e poi piano piano Gene Anthony Ray è scivolato nella droga, nella miseria e nella disperazione.

Negli ultimi anni viveva qui in Italia dove un ancor più sfortunato destino l’ha portato a "Buona Domenica" con un certo Maurizio Costanzo che prima "accusava" tutti coloro che avevano sfruttato la fama di Gene Anthony Ray e che in lui vedevano solo il suo personaggio Leroy, e poi non ha fatto altro che chiamarlo Leroy (e non con il suo vero nome!) e a farlo esibire a comando, tipo fenomeno da baraccone, in balli sfrenati che sinceramente mi mettevano un po’ di tristezza…c’era troppo pietismo intorno a Gene Anthony Ray (perché è così che si chiama, non Leroy, caro Costanzo!)

Lo scorso inverno un uomo di 41 anni è morto, forse da solo, stroncato da un ictus, quell’uomo non si chiamava "Leroy di Saranno Famosi", quell’uomo si chiamava Gene Anthony Ray.

COCO HERNANDEZ

Erica Gimpel è Coco, eccellente studentessa un po' odiosa.
Nasce il 25 giugno 1964 a New York da una mamma cantante di opera che continuò ad esibirsi fino agli ultimi mesi della gravidanza, forse trasmettendo alla figlia talento e passione per la musica.
Ricordiamo la sua partecipazione in "Smoke" e in alcuni spot per la Pepsi.

DORIS SCHWARTZ

Valerie Landsburg dal 1982 al 1985 è Doris Schwartz.
Valerie ha parecchie cose in comune con il suo personaggio. "Entrambe abbiamo il dono di saper far ridere le persone", un senso dell'umorismo sottile, basato sull'attenta osservazione degli altri. Figlia di un produttore ed una scrittrice/psicologa, Valerie fin da piccola amava ascoltare i dischi degli spettacoli di Broadway. Inizia a prendere lezioni di danza a 5 anni poi a 6 lascia New York per trasferirsi a Los Angeles dove frequenta la Beverly Hills High School (si, si, proprio quella del famoso telefilm!). Le soddisfazioni non tardano ad arrivare, il ruolo di Frannie nel film "Thank God it's friday" del 1978 ottiene ottimi consensi da parte della critica poi, come spesso capita, non succede niente per un anno, tutte quelle recensioni positive sembrano non servire a nulla.
Ma il suo talento viene notato anche da quelli di "Saranno Famosi" e Valerie diventa Doris.

DANNY AMATULLO

Secondo gli autori trovare un attore per il ruolo di Danny Amatullo è stata un'impresa davvero ardua, doveva avere un naturale senso dell'umorismo ma saper anche interpretare i momenti di debolezza di Danny, spesso in conflitto con il padre, e poi ancora danzare e recitare.
Poi è arrivato Carlo Imperato.
Carlo è nato nel Bronx il 3 Agosto 1963. A 13 anni si presenta a Broadway per il suo primo provino.
Curiosità: Danny non è il diminutivo di Daniel ma di Dante, Kim Kaufman, segretaria di produzione della serie, ci teneva particolarmente a dettagli come i nomi, o la nazionalità dei vari personaggi, per rendere la storia più vicina alla realtà ed è stata proprio lei a chiamarlo Amatullo per omaggiare uno dei ragazzi della troupe, l'assistente del produttore Tony Amatullo.
